According to a report, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has given an order to the state ministry of finance to begin immediately payment of salary arrears , pension and gratuity from the Paris Club refunds recently received by the state
The Governor declared this at the burial of Sabastine Dewua at Tse-Awuna ,Mbachohon, Gwer West Local Government Area of the state on Monday , Ortom reveals that the setting up of the Paris Disbursement Committee was done with good intentions owing to public concerns, he has now suspended the committee to pave way for the speedy payment of the funds to workers and retirees
The governor also said that he has immediately made a public receipt of the of N14.9 billion Paris Club refund due to the transparency of the administration even when other state haven’t reveal exact amount paying to their state
He has also reaffirmed his stand against the invasion of the state by armed herdsmen and attributed his position to the support he has enjoyed from Benue People
He also appeal to them to support him for the reelection and make it a peaceful one and also said that the power belong to God and can give it to whomever he wills
While praying God to grant the deceased eternal rest and his family the fortitude to bear the loss, Ortom described the late Dewua as a truthful and God fearing person who lived and died in Christ.
In a funeral mass, the Parish Priest in charge of St. Theresa’s Catholic Parish, Naka, Rev. Fr. Titus Igyese, urged the living to respect life more than death, stressing that one who lives a Godly life fears no death.
The younger brother of the deceased, Brigadier General Charles Dewua, on behalf of the family, expressed appreciation to Governor Ortom, the church and everyone who stood by the family during the sickness, death and burial of their father.
